SDK vs. GLX?

i just got nexuiz installed on 5.0... was wondering if there's any difference in SDL and GLX? i have an GeForce 8800ultra (nvidia) so rendering isn't a problem. just wondering what the difference is. i looked around and can't really find anything on the topic. the closest i came was some mentioning about GLX not liking nvidia, which seems to be irrelevant, since both of them run.
