mdbtools-odbc-0.6_pre1-r1 not in portage

Postby tman7510 » Tue Oct 27, 2009 18:32

I need mdbtools-odbc-0.6_pre1-r1 but it isnt in portage. Is there anyway to build this from an rpm? I noticed there isn't an rpm available for the latest version but there is and rpm for mdbtools-0.5rc2-1 but this version is also unavailable in portage.

I have mdbtools but I dont have a odbc driver for mdbtools. I noticed that mdbtools-0.5 has a driver rpm but 0.6 doesn't. How do I create my own from the tarball or is there already one created in another sabayon repository :?: I know I cannot use an rpm but isnt there a way to create a tarball that I can install from an rpm?

You said a certain version of mdbtools doesn't come with odbc and also talked about sabayon repository... That makes me think you don't have much idea of what are you dealing with (I mean portage).

I strongly advise you to search in our wiki about portage and entropy and to use entropy (cause it's more user friendly).
If a certain package doesn't have some features you want (this seems to be the case with mdbtools in entropy not having odbc), you can request them in our bugzilla.

If you want just that version (which is not the latest) with odbc, the command is this one:
Code: Select all
env "USE= odbc" emerge -a =app-office/mdbtools-0.6_pre1-r1

thank you for your help. I find portage very dificult to learn but it's repositories are vast compared with entropy's. I find entropy to be much faster since you dont have to compile everything but the packages available are limited :?:

You can request packages from portage to be added to entropy: http://bugs.sabayonlinux.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Entropy&format=packreq
