Vboxdrv & other modules not loaded automatically [Solved]

Postby cmost » Sun Oct 18, 2009 14:29

Strange problem here. I cannot seem to get the vboxdrv and other associated VirtualBox drivers to load automatically. I can use modprobe to insert them into the kernel after logging in, but adding them to /etc/conf.d/modules doesn't seem to automatically do so. I'm running a fully up-to-date KDE edition of Sabayon 5.o AMD64. The problem first occurred when I tried to manually upgrade VirtualBox 3.0.6 to 3.0.8 from the tarball but then returned to 3.0.6 using Sulfur/Entropy. Yesterday, I enabled the Limbo repository and did a full system upgrade and the problem persists with 3.0.8. Any ideas? Thanks for such a great GREAT system!!!!!

Here's my /etc/conf.d/modules file.

Code: Select all
# You can define a list modules for a specific kernel version,
# a released kernel version, a main kernel version or just a list.
#modules_2_6_23_gentoo_r5="ieee1394 ohci1394"
#modules_2_6_23="tun ieee1394"
#modules_2_6="tun"
#modules="ohci1394"

# You can give modules a different name when they load - the new name
# will also be used to pick arguments below.
#modules="dummy:dummy1"

# Give the modules some arguments if needed, per version if necessary.
#module_ieee1394_args="debug"
#module_ieee1394_args_2_6_23_gentoo_r5="ieee1394 ohci1394"
#module_ieee1394_args_2_6_23="tun ieee1394"
#module_ieee1394_args_2_6="tun"

# You should consult your kernel documentation and configuration
# for a list of modules and their options.
modules="vboxdrv"
modules="vboxnetflt"
modules="vboxnetadp"
modules="vboxvideo"

Thanks! I actually did find that post but assumed it was too old to be useful. I just changed my /etc/conf.d/modules file to reflect the recommendations. I'll reboot and confirm success or failure. Thanks again! :D
