Has anyone had trouble with installing VirtualBoxs Kernel driver?

For some reason I just can't get it to work at all.

It keeps telling me.

Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Re-setup the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.


I'v tryed vboxdrv setup but no luck, the file isn't there.

Hi,

I can suggest you how I've done.

Open konsole as root, edit with nano your file /etc/conf.d/modules adding what follows:

modules="vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp vboxvideo"

Restart the system and everything should be ok

Wow thanks heaps guys, Its all up and working now.

But there's just one this. When I start my VB VM I can't use my mouse on my host Pc?
Every outer version I have used you just press "Right Ctrl" But it just shows me the mouse but I can't use it, tho I can use my keyboard?

Any Iders?

Try removing 'vboxvideo' from the list of modules, like so:

modules="vboxdrv vboxnetflt vboxnetadp"

Mine works fine without it, and I don't have mouse issues

You can probably remove the module from a running system with (as root):

rmmod vboxvideo

but I'd change the modules file and reboot to be sure.

I tried that, VB still work fine.But the mouse is still not working on the host PC.
I've tried reinstalling I've tried it with the GA and with out the GA.

It really sux's I'm always multitasking on my computer but when I have to use VB I put me at a right stop.

When I merged the package xf86-input-virtualbox-3.0.10 it displayed the following message:

* You need to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and set:

* Driver "vboxmouse"
*
* in the Core Pointer's InputDevice section (Section "InputDevice")
*
* Starting with 1.5 version, X.Org Server can do mouse auto-detection
* you may install the hal information file about the mouse driver:

* /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/90-vboxguest.fdi
*
* dropping it into: /etc/hal/fdi/policy/

Perhaps you need to do that.

The VBox inout and video drivers ARE ONLY NEEDED ON THE *GUEST*
