Desktop progams - suggestion

Postby Richlion » Mon Aug 31, 2009 23:06

Hi,

may I have a suggestion for future SL releases to put some programs we always use into the Desktop? It pretty annoys me whenever I install a new SL I have to setup things like that from scratch. With SL3.4 I could backup and restore /home/user/.kde35 and all my settings could be transfered. I don't know if this is going to be possible with all the KDE4 changes, but is it not possible to agree some programs could be in the Desktop folder after a SL install?

Here is my screenshot of what I have, maybe a few people could add theirs...

If anyone has problems with the link, let me know.

Thanks,
Richard

I was mainly thinking - if I was completely new to Linux and didn't know how to launch programs or what are their names, I would find all main programs on the desktop just after the installation. After all the new KDE4 desktop only covers a small part of the desktop/screen.
I know it's hard to make everyone happy, but it's 10 times easier to delete an icon from the desktop than find it in the programs in the start menu.
Cheers,
Richard

The best way to help newcomers to KDE would be to abandon the ridiculous maze called "kickoff" and make the default menu the "Classic" one.

Have you seen EasyPeasy? It has a fullscreen menu on the desktop, it reminded me of a "tabbed" desktop.
