Emerge request timeout error [Solved]

Postby xaber » Tue Sep 22, 2009 20:39

Hi there, sorry to bother, but I get a strange (maybe?) error when installing something with emerge.
Fisrt of all, I tried to update portage with "emerge portage", but I got this screen:

"sabayon-box xaber # emerge portage

* IMPORTANT: 2 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies... done!

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

>>> Emerging (1 of 1) sys-apps/portage-2.2_rc41
>>> Downloading 'http://213.186.33.38/gentoo-distfiles/distfiles/portage-2.2_rc35.tar.bz2'

Retrying."

Sorry, I have italian sabayon, so I trnaslated what I think is the most important parts. But, summing up, I get a timeout error. This repeated when I added the sunrise layman and then used "emerge pdfedit" to install the pdfedit app present in the sunrise layman... But I get another timeout error...
What could the problem be?
Thanks in advance!

the server is not there so it can't get the package

change your mirror in /etc/make.conf

Bu it's strange, cause few minutes ago I retried to install pdfedit and, after some timeouts, the package has been installed correctly...
Are you sure I have to change the server? When i fresh installed sabayon some weeks ago, I also installed blueman using emerge with no issues...

Btw, this is my gentoo_mirror section in make.conf:

"GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://213.186.33.38/gentoo-distfiles/ http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ ftp://213.186.33.38/gentoo-distfiles/ http://212.219.56.138/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/down ... oo-mirror/""

Where do I have to put the link you gave to me?

Btw, at that link is said that "Important: These mirrors are download mirrors. The rsync-mirrors listed here are not for individual use (i.e. emerge --sync) as that would download the full mirror instead of just the Portage tree". So, what should I do with your link and with all the mirrors listed in there?

So I only have to remove the http one? And what about the same ftp link?
And, after removing the old mirror, I have to execute "mirrorselect -s3 -b10 -o -D >> /etc/make.conf", right?
I think I don't need the other 2 commands in the wiki, is that right?

Ok, I deleted the old links, commented (#) the other gentoo_mirrors remained and now set as default new gentoo_mirrors the ones checked with mirrorselect. Everuthing seems to work perfectly now. Thanks a lot!
