Openoffice uninstalls Firefox and Firefox uninstalls OOo :'(

Postby hermanschmidt » Tue Sep 01, 2009 7:15

Why can't they live together? hahahaha.

I've just installed the last version of Sabayon with Gnome. The first thing I did after it, was update Firefox 3.0.x to Firefox 3.5.2 using emerge.

When I did that, emerge uninstalled OpenOffice. So I've tried to install OpenOffice again, and when I typed "emerge -a openoffice" in terminal, it says that would uninstall Firefox :'(

How could I do to make Firefox and OpenOffice live together again in my computer?
Currently I have only Firefox 3.5.2 installed.

Cheers!!

Could you post exactly the commands you are executing in order to emerge openoffice and
firefox?
(the initial output of the dependency calculation of emerge -a openoffice would be useful too)

I tried to emerge firefox from portage and it did nothing to uninstall openoffice (firefox version 3.5.2-r11) :?:
Keep in mind that if you got troubles using portage you can always try equo.

If you used emerge before using equo run:
Code: Select all
equo database gentoosync

now proceed with the installation:
Code: Select all
equo install --ask mozilla-firefox openoffice

if your problem is solved, please mark this thread as such, many users
could find it useful
(you should edit your first post and add [Solved] at the end of it)

It's great that it worked for you, did you use equo?

Technical explination: The user was trying to emerge with the nsplugin use flag enabled, this adds a firefox dep of <3.1 which would have caused the block. The entropy version is built wih -nsplugin so this doesnt happen.
