Ive got Sabaoyon installed on VMware Workstation ACE Edition but i get completely lost when i need to install the vmware tools. ive been trying to follow This Tutorial thing but i get lost when it tells me to untar from the mounted cdrom. Root Shell says "No such file or directory" (6.2 Installing VMware Tools Manually)

Can someone please give me a quick rundown on how i would install the tools so i can enjoy the full graphical benefit of Sabayon?

I want to expand my knowledge of linux and change from windows XP to linux, but i dont think it would be wise to do that while not knowing anything about linux.

There should be a option on top of the vmware program that say's install additions and then = automatic job.

Or you might have to change the virtual cd drive to the additions iso file and then mount and run it.

If it is a zip / tar / gzip etc file then just get it onto the sabayon desktop and right click and "extract" option and tell it where it must extract to.

Then likely you will have to run / execute it .
using " terminal " as root or if not root type " su " and enter no "" just su + enter and give the root password "root" or the actual root password you specified during install.

Once as root you can change folder by typing " cd /usr " or "cd usr" where cd means change directory and /usr = highest level folder with name of usr to be selected , alternatively cd usr will change to a subfolder in the current folder eg: cd Desktop/music will open music folder on desktop.

PS> big letter / small letters is very important in linux.
NVIDIA-7025.run and nvidia-7025.run and Nvidia-7025.run is 3 different files.

the auto install only mounts the image to the disk and asks me what to do, so i open in new window. From there i extracted that folder, vmware-tools-distrib, to the desktop and used root shell to run the vmware-install.pl.

Now im stuck where it says "What is the directory that contains the init directories (rc0.d/ to rc6.d/)?"

Copy n pasted from my other post:

If it nags about rc stuff, just sudo mkdir /etc/rc.d/rc0.d and repeat 6 times, going from rc0 to rc6 then try vmware-config.pl again.

Your directory it wants would thus likely be /etc/rc.d if it happens to still ask you.

Quick and easy way to create the rc.d+ directories:

I've installed Sabayon 5.0_x86 on VMware Fusion 3.0. There is an issue with locating the C headers.

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel?

I've seen this in VMware when installing Fedora and located a workaround, but I haven't been able to figure it out using Sabayon. Has anyone a suggestion?

I'll try it; if an issue remains, I'll repost. Otherwise, this solves the C Header problem...FYI if you're searching forums and have run into a similar problem.

EDIT: Did not solve the C header problem. Still looking.
