Strange error

I found I have been successful installing both 32bit & 64bit RR4 on my AMD64 3200 with 1g ram without much problems , So I would probebly just reccomend that if its not slow & its running fine then just leave them alone unless you are succesful at doing a Stage 1,2 or 3 . where you can optimise for your PC during setup.
A lot are having trouble getting the installer to work when doing a Stage1,or3 install.
I found if your sneaky in how & what you pick when doing a Stage install with the installer then it will work.
One of the tricks I found was to be careful how many & which USE-FLAGS you choose (dont know why)as you can add them after install has finished as well.
For me it took a bit of going back & restarting til I got it right then just added & changed after install, Worked Beautifuly.
For others the installer may work without any problems at all, Not Sure,
Would be interesting to know if anyone else has had success doing a Stage 1 install using installer, as 4 me it didnt take that long once it got Started.
And I'm still a Novice.

I could not get the installer to do a stage install it locked the machine. Anyway thanks for replying I got it to work after many hours of emerge -e system/world then all was fine. Only problem is i installed on a Thinkpad laptop with a 40G dual biit HD and space was a premium but it worked out fine.

I found that the certain USE-FLAGS that needed to be omitted or not added during setup were only 1 or 2 culprits. I noticed if I added them then my install would stop at BootStrap.
Wether its just suited 4 my PC I no not?
But these are the 2 that I make sure I dont choose when selecting my USE-FLAGS. (Build & BootStrap ). All other USE-FLAGS seem to be OK to add.
I found if I chose one of them or both my install would stop at the BootStrap part.
AnyWay theres a difference between a system freezing & a system failing during install.
Wether this works 4 everyone else or Most others I no not but it worked 4 me & worked well especially with RR4.

I also always choose "normal" emerge sync & not Snapshot to obtain the Portage Tree.

wonderful! Yes, using unsafe CFLAGS can freeze your computer or simply packages can't be compiled correctly. Safe CFLAGS, for amd64 are:

CFLAGS="-march=x86-64 -O2"
^ those are the safest, you can change "x86-64" with "athlon64" if you have an AMD Athlon 64.

OOOPS- Sorry Everyone I meant "USE-FLAGS" Not CFLAGS, like (Build & BootStrap ) I am still learning the differences .
I hopefully will be able to edit my posts Right if Possible?
I realised after reading Lxnays last post which means if you choose the right CFLAGS & Careful Which USE-FLAGS you choose Then We should be right when doing a Stage 1,2 or 3 Install.
