Login to Konqueror as root [Solved]

Postby goatherd » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:57

I'm trying to install k3b, so far without success. I've followed all the wiki instructions, and the process in konsole seems to work, but at the end k3b is not installed. I read that the file can be downloaded, extracted and the folder put into the usr/local/scr folder and to do this I have to be logged into konqueror as root. How do I do this?

Why don't you open sulfur then search for and select k3b and then install it

Or in terminal type
su
Password:
equo install k3b
Desktop ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 9500 1GB
Notebook HP CQ61-311AX, AMD CPU M320, 4 Gb RAM, Radeon HD 4300 512 MB
Wireless AR9285, Audio ATI SBx00 (IDT 92hd75B2x5)
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!

equo install k3b does not work - it tells me that repository sabayonlinux.org is not installed yet - the next line tells me that repository sabayonlinux.org is not available online and then goes onto say I should up date the repositories - which is a tad contradictory - I assume the repository in question is sulfur - If the repository in question "sabayonlinux.org" is not available online, how do I get it?? I am using 4.1. So, I went to the k3b site, downloaded the package, followed the instructions there, viz, extract the package, move the extracted folder to /usr/local/scr and install from there, to move the package to usr/local/scr I can do it with Konqueror but I need to login as root in Konqueror - --- ---

you always always always use the package manager, you don't go downloading stuff off the internet

you need to spend some time with:
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... t_to_do.3F

take your time and go through that

Read this carefully - I will say this only once more -NOTHING IN THE WIKI AND NOTHING THAT YOU ARE TELLING ME WORKS - NONE OF IT WORKS - you keep telling me to do the same thing over and over - it doesn't work!

Let's take the 'Fresh Install - What to do?' step by step, as it has not worked for some people (it didn't work for me in one installation either). Post the output you get when you enter the first command in a Terminal/Konsole window as the root user:

Code: Select all
# equo update

Than you need to dig into why and post proper information as it does work

You haven't said what steps you tried besides everything
What Sabayon version?
What kinda internet connection
What is your geographical location as that can have a part in it also
A bad connection can also cause grief for people
Give the errors

Help us to help you

As root:
Code: Select all
equo update && equo install entropy equo sulfur

If this doesn't work, post the output here.

goatherd wrote:I assume the repository in question is sulfur

Nope. Sulfur, formerly known as Spritz, is the GUI for Entropy, the binary package manager in SabayonLinux.
Better to use equo though, more stable and faster than Sulfur.

You never download packages from the internet, you always use the package manager.
If the package of your choice is not in Entropy, you may want to take a look into Portage, but only if you know what you are doing (and you, obviously, do not).
If the package is not in Entropy or Portage and you really really badly need it, do a package request (search the forum to find out how).
But, again, you never download packages from the internet.

And as Wolfden pointed out, you should provide us with as many details as possible, so we can narrow it down to "it's probably this"...or the error message might even literally tell you what to do.
What you should not be doing here is abuse your capslock key, shouting about how nothing works.

Read this carefully - I will say this only once™ :
The developers here are doing a lot of hard work on this distro, the website, the wiki, the forum ánd the bugzilla, there aren't many of 'm around, and do you have any idea how well this hard work pays?
Nothing.
They do it all for free, and in their own free time, not their bosses'.
You'd better keep that in mind, the next time you come shouting nothing works, expecting anyone to help you.

Oh...and to answer your original question:
I have to be logged into konqueror as root. How do I do this?
Handtekening? Zeg...ik ga niet op m'n monitor schrijven!
