auto login [Solved]

I'm new to this so please bear with me. I have just installed 4.1, very impressed everything works out of the box (so far), I would like to bypass the login window, but when I open the login manager (System Settings) it is muted, and there is no provision to log in as administrator or similar. Can anyone guide me?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I didn't realise that the Wiki existed, I need to get used to the whole site. I went to the reference you gave me (KDE) but when I enter the line "kwrite /usr/ etc etc" it tells me that there is no such command. I have tried the wiki for more references to autologin but I get no other.

with wikis and stuff you have to think outside of the box so go look in /usr/kde/ and see what is there

I can find the kdmrc file with dolphin, and I can read it but not save anything I write to it. When I try to open it in konsole or xterm it tells me that "kwrite" is not a command. If I enter "write" I am told that write permission is turned off. Is there another editor that I can use in konsole?

you have to be root to edit it, that is why the wiki says to su

try alt-f2 then enter kdesu systemsettings ... enter your root password then go to the advanced tab and you will be able to make your auto login settings now ...

Success! Many thanks to all. I tried the last suggestion, kdesu, which told me that there was no "system settings" command so I tried alt-F2 and kdmsu, got three alternates opened kdmrc entered root password and got the Login Manager. The wike is invaluable as a reference. Thanks again
