How to install Firefox 3.5

Postby axel668 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 17:00

Hi !
Just installed Sabayon 4.2 Gnome and I'm impressed !!!
Now I only need a decent browser. Could find Opera 10 beta in Sulfur, which is a start, but no Firefox 3.5 -
so how do I get it ? Should be an easy one, hope I can follow up with more intelligent questions in the future
Thanks in advance, A.

Download Opera and install it manually..

Firefox 3.5 is not in the repositories yet. You can download tar.bz2 package but it's for 32bit systems only, I would say..

Thanks !

Works, although it's 32bit. This should get me going, until FF is added to the repositories. Oh, and for clarification, opera IS in the repositories - not the latest version but at least.

also, the firefox 3.5 may be found, even in 64 bits version, in:

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org

Othre method It may be installed in Sabayon, via Portage. it is not in Portage, but it is the Overlay sabayon.
please carry these commands:

emerge --sync
emerge -p portage
emerge -av portage
emerge layman
layman -d sabayon
layman -a sabayon
layman -S
emerge -s mozilla-firefox (this will show to you the existing vesions).
emerge -av mozilla-firefox-bin

The 3.5 is in binary format, but im my system and in Portoguese Brazilian, i seems to me somewhat bugged.

Today, i see that firefox 3.5 is now in the regular Entropy tree.
no more special install procedure is necessary.
