A few issues for a Sabayon Newbie

Postby FatalSw1tch » Sun Jul 05, 2009 23:16

Hey All,

I'm new to Sabayon and I'm having two issues but other than that everything is working just fine.

Issue number one:

When using the default theme I believe it is the gnome theme, I am using the Wireless manager to connect to my work VPN. This is an openVPN connection. The connection works great except that all traffic is being forced to the VPN connection so I can not even browse to the internet. Once I kill the VPN session I am then able to browse the internet again. How can I stop this from being forced? I need to be able to get to the internet as normal and also to my companies private network via the openVPN link.

Issue number two:
How can I force GDM to start up on system boot rather than the xbmc?

Other than that I'm quite happy with the system and it was far less work than getting my Arch setup to work correctly :)

Thanks for the help and the sooner I can resolve this the better hehe.

Hi!

I can't help you with the VPN, but I'm curious about XBMC,
what do you mean that it is started automatically?
If the problem is that when you login a XBMC session is started, I think that
the problem could be solved simply changing the session in which you want to login:

When you are prompted for username and password, go to the "Session" button, choose Gnome, or the one
you want.
It should prompt you for setting it as default, if you choose it to, that should be it.

The XBMC issue comes from before a login is even prompted. Upon system boot it will start XBMC and I have to exit it before I can login. I was not able to find where to force GDM to start instead of XBMC by default.

Hi Guys,

Okay let me provide a little more information on this. I'm using the network manager that comes with the default window manager I think this is Gnome network manager but not 100% sure. Anyways once I connect to the VPN it changes the ip routes to point everything to the VPN as mentioned. To fix this I manually have to type in.

route del default

route add default gw <IP of network at the time> dev wlan0 (I'm wireless)

It is a real pain to keep doing this all the time so I ask how can I modify the script to not redirect traffic?

Thanks,

I feel your pain with the Arch setup! About your XBMC when you did the install were you sure to select GNOME or perhaps did you have XBMC selected as default by mistake?
