Live CD OK. Installed System Freezes Before Login [Solved]

Postby nobicycle » Tue Oct 04, 2011 11:17

An md5 checksummed xfce x86 Daily from Oct 3, using USB install, worked ok on one machine.
On a portable, more recent hardware, the installed system frozes just before login.
I think this is obviously a hardware problem, but the logs seem to show no error at all.

I uploaded most /var/log logs to http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/7232

Froze = Sabayon blue background "Open your source ..." visible. Mouse cursor visible and responsive.
CTRL-ALT-F1 causes the screen to go black.
After which, CTRL-ALT-F7 which normally switches back to GUI I believe, does nothing.
CTRL+ALT+F2 does nothing.
I tried waiting 15 minutes in case it was some strange network seeking timeout issue.

In recovery mode :
su - user (my login)
startxfce4

starts an apparently normal xfce4 session.

Sabayon eselect, lspci (identical in Live CD and installed systems) and uname output is here:
http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/7234

eselect opengl list
is also identical in Live CD and installed systems).

I will run sabayonlive-tools and upload the results soon.

Why would the login not appear? Yet the graphics hardware allow starting xfce4 manually?

Using Recovery, #equo update and #equo upgrade were done.
No change.
In addition to previous logs, I uploaded logs in pastebin in 7291, 7292 and 7293 using sabayonlive-tools.

Looking forward to some suggestions. This is the second time this has happened on an installation. It also happened on a Gigabyte motherboard with Nvidia graphics with a previous release.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Joost, that flag did not affect anything.
When I last ran startxfce4 in recovery mode I captured output using nohup.
It is here :http://pastebin.com/kcHchAdH
I wonder if the errors terin I significant?

If not, how can I simulate a normal installed boot sequence after Iog into recovery mode.

I am determined to get this to work. The new Sabayon xfce is great
Thanks for the help

Please close. It will forever remain a mystery because Sabayon 7 GNOME works on the troublesome machine. The new version drives great. If it is Gnome 3.2 that I am seeing in this new version I am not sure what all the fuss is about. Maybe this is a compliment to Sabayon's implementation of it.

"Closing" a topic is left to the user that opened it, just put a [Solved] in your topic's subject :)
I will do it for you this time.

Sabayon 7 does use GNOME3.2, it is nice to see that this issue got solved in the newer versions
