weird issue on limbo & irc solved kinda

Postby genfool » Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:27

I am just confused as where to look for the issue.
Problem is with a irc client, I have used xchat forever, same issue happens with konversation, sooo I do not think it is xchat.
I have been running this box for several months without limbo, in anticipation for 5.4, and testing, I added limbo.
For a few weeks was fine, some where in my daily updating, in the last week, irc just constantly pings out.
Someone suggested it was the kde power management settings, I have changed them, does not help, It still times out while I am actively using the computer, answering mail and surfing the forums. I am pretty sure it is not my network connection, I have a dual boot with gentoo on the same box, posting from it now, I am doing a world update and on #sabayon and no time out on irc...no problems.
It is some setting in sabayon in the last week that has caused this. I am looking for ideas of what to look at, where do you find a log for a time out issue on freenode?
Those that know me, know I spend more time in #sabayon then on the forums, my issue is so bad, I cant boot sabayon and use irc....what could the problem be?

does removing limbo and than doing a world upgrade fix it? I don't think limbo is much different than main, so I don't think it is limbo related. Only irc related? web pages and what not work fine?

my connection is solid, wife can watch a movie on hula, while I download an iso at 600+kb/sec no lag, all webpages open fine.
I have had this box set up for months, have not added any new apps in a couple months. Only the daily updates from limbo.
Maybe kde related? lythrandel suggested it might be power management, cause I have been pinging out between 245 and 275 sec. So I been watching, DHalens timed out at 275, AZeroth at 265, both lxnay and joost have also.
An occasional time out could be considered normal, and never noticed, while mine severe. I have not changed any settings.
Week or two ago, irc was fine on this system. I am baffled as why only irc is affected, and only this sabayon box.
I will keep digging in to it, any suggestions would be helpful.
I agree, this question may belong up above in networking, I started to put it there. Since I am using limbo I put it here.

Seems like I have a crappy router
Even though, on the wifes xp box, my sabayon htpc, my sabayon laptop, my gentoo install, was only the sabayon limbo that showed the irc symptoms first...is also my main desktop.
As the days progressed, the other machines started to show the same error, on irc only. I still could stream movies, download iso, surf the web...after a couple weeks, all computers started to fail on irc, not just my main desktop with limbo.
I rebooted the router, now all is fine again. I am still confused on why it only affected irc, Think I am going shopping for a new router. The router has needed to be rebooted in the past, was always obvious at the time though.
