AMD64 Daily builds always hangs

Postby KairiTech » Mon Aug 16, 2010 15:50

I've never been able to get any of the AMD64 daily builds (Gnome, XFCE, E17) to install. A few seconds after X starts it lock up solid and I can't even get to the Alt-F1 console. If I try the text install it hang at the searching for storage message. I can get to Alt-F1 then but there are no error messages that seem to indicate what the problem is.

Here is the output of lspci. Is there any other details that I need to provide that can help track down a solution? I'm very keen on using the E17 spin.

We need logs from the live sessions.

Have you checked the md5 of the iso and the md5 of the CD/DVD you created

I used UNetbootin to place the images on USB sticks
Booted computers to live session no problems with both builds on my desktop and notebook using

a 1 GiB USB stick
Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_E17.iso
Built on: 2010-08-11 03:05:24.812061

a 4 GiB USB stick
Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_E17.iso
Built on: 2010-08-15 03:05:19.628061

Other problems I have seen are
Incorrect BIOS settings
Faulty CD/DVD disc, I always seem to have a couple when trying the cheap brands
Faulty fan (running at half speed) on cheap graphic card will cause X to lock-up (overheating)
Desktop ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus, AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 5200, 4 Gb RAM, GeForce 9500 1GB
Notebook HP CQ61-311AX, AMD CPU M320, 4 Gb RAM, Radeon HD 4300 512 MB
Wireless AR9285, Audio ATI SBx00 (IDT 92hd75B2x5)
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!

I can't do anything once the graphical install locks up.

What is the best way to capture the logs (and which ones) when the text install hangs?

And about the md5...I downloaded, burned and installed the Sabayon_Linux_5.3_amd64_G.iso images several times on the exact same hardware and never had a problem. Even durned the dailys to the same DVD just to be sure then burned the Sabayon_Linux_5.3_amd64_G.iso image to the same DVD again and it worked every time.

Just because you burnt Sabayon_Linux_5.3_amd64_G.iso and that works does not mean that the Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_E17.iso file you downloaded is OK it may have been damaged while downloading

To check md5 use this method http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... or_LiveDVD

There is no problem with iso image that I downloaded from ftp://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/
I just installed Sabayon_Linux_DAILY_amd64_E17 on to my test computer and there was no problems using custom disk layout with /boot = 500 MiB swap = 2 GiB and /= 37 GiB

Your log files READ THEM FIRST (dmesg, Xorg.0.log , anaconda.log, anaconda.*.* and messages)
can be found in the directory /var/log

The live session Installer logs are in the directory /var/log/installer
Sorry the above line should be
live session Installer logs (anaconda.log, program.log and storage.log) are in the directory /tmp

xorg.conf in the directory /etc/X11/

And the hidden file .xsession-errors can be found in /home/the user name/

The logs can be very large so save them with the extension .txt in your /home/ then compress the files and add as attachment, do not paste the contents in your posts
