μTimer:

µTimer (also written "utimer", pronounced as "micro-timer") is a command-line multifunction timer tool.

It features a timer, a countdown, and a stopwatch.

It's incompatible with Xfce >=4.8: Gentoo Bugzilla Bug Report No. 344653

@Fitzcarraldo
Thanks. I did download and run utimer and several other programs, but none were even close to what I am looking for.

@Fitzcarraldo: Oh, yeah, µtimer. I use it, too. But it sounds to me, that k357k9 is looking for a GUI plugin to integrate in the panel …

@k357k9: What are you looking for? List some "Must-have"s. Otherwise I just can shot in the dark.

I checked a bunch of those plugins out, but did not have any luck. Those menu editors are not close either. I think I am going to try a different approach.

What are you looking for? List some "Must-have"s.

It needs to be a program that can be launched out of the menu, occupies a relatively small window, have a start - stop - reset function, and can have multiple copies running.

Then try pystopwatch, which works fine in Gentoo, has a GUI, and can have multiple instances running (I have three instances running on my screen at the moment).

You can either file a request for an Entropy package to be put in the Entropy repository by clicking on the link Bugs at the top of this page, or you could try installing the Portage package. If you want to risk the latter:

Code: Select all
# emerge --sync
# emerge -1v pystopwatch
# equo rescue spmsync

Have not tried it in Xfce, so you might need to add it to the Xfce Application Menu manually (see An easy way to edit the Xfce Application Menu, although lxmed may already have been added to the Sabayon 11 Xfce LiveDVD in which case you'd find it in one of the Xfce Application Menu sub-menus).

@Fitzcarraldo
Thanks again.
It looks like I am going to have to try a different approach to all this.
