package downgrade with equo

Postby jabfinger » Mon Jan 14, 2013 18:35

Hi,
Recently installed sabayon 10 to my laptop and to a friends desktop pc. The symptoms of my problem are the same on both PC's because, I think, they both have the ati HD 3000 series of video cards. While running from the live cd both computers run normally(I installed the Gnome 3) with X and the gnome-shell working as it should. After the install however they do not boot to the login screen they just go black. I believe this is due to the kernel 3.5 in the 10 distro and support for fglrx. So my solution to this problem was to install Sabayon 9 on both pc's. This worked and after install of 9 they both boot to the correct login screen and the gnome 3 shell works propperly. After upgrading however We are back to the same problem as the 10 install. I would like to try to downgrade the ATI fglrx drivers to what they are on the sabayon 9 distro. How do I do this?

That should get you started, you should be able to extrapolate what you need from it. Sorry I don't have more time.

The kernel is good. It is the 3.4 from the Sabayon 9. ATI fglrx and maybe xorg-server is what I want to downgrade back to what it was before I upgraded the Sabayon 9 distro. sorry, but, what a pain in the ass this has become!

Hm, did you try to install the further version and mask the recent one?

I am using the nvidia drivers (due to my nvidia graphic card …) and followed this instruction. Sorry, I cannot give you proper details, but maybe it will work the same way …

No, but thanks...What I want to know is is it possible to downgrade packages with equo? It seems unlikely since the repositorys contain, from what I can tell, updated packages. But if it is how do I do it with equo? If it is not possible with equo is there a method to accomplish this and if there is a method what is it and I will go read for another 5 hours or so and try to figure that out...Truly frustrated

With our current repositories you can not downgrade. If you have had the package installed in past than the package probably still exists in your cache, unless you did equo cleanup. I believe there is away to install than, I just don't know the commands as I have never done it. Check equo --help

A member recently started up a community repository that he calls Frozen Repository, which allows users to get older packages from time of release. See viewtopic.php?f=76&t=28837 He is starting with Sabayon 10 so prior to that is a no go. His version of xorg and drivers would be older than current tho so you may want to check into that.

I thought once you'd selected genkernel / earlier sabayon-sources / matching earlier ati-drivers, you were good to go? It's not a direct downgrade as such but isn't that how it's supposed to work?
