Grub Issue

Postby Onisutra » Tue Dec 18, 2012 3:43

Hello,

I recently upgraded my version of Sabayon to 10. Everything when well and I thought I would also upgrade my kernel from 3.2.0 to 3.6.0. Everything went fine and I went to change the setting in my grub.conf file. I was unable to find the file anywhere on my system. This really confused me as the docs on upgrading the kernel say that I should. I chose to restart and see what happened. Well, grub started with a "Welcome to GRUB" - File Not Found - File Not Found - File Not Found. Once this occurred I was directed to the grub menu and set my kernel back to 3.2.0 and loaded Sabayon once again. So, grub still work somewhat, but there are still many error that occur from time to time. I am wondering what I should do about this.

Basic info:
Sabayon X
Grub 1.9

What I'd Like To Do:
Resolve the issues with grub, eventually upgrade to v2, use newest kernel again.

If anyone can direct me to some information that could help me or just offer some assistance that would be fantastic!

Thank you for your time,
Oni

Hello,

which Documentation did you used?
Kernel switcher is the most recommended one (you have to modify the versions to your situation).

Boot-Repair-Disk is a live CD dedicated to fixing this type of problem.
It has got me out of trouble on more than one occasion.
It will identify your installed Operating Systems and reconfigure GRUB with just a few mouse clicks.
Download and burn the iso then boot to the CD.

Hope this gets you going again.

Run:

Code: Select all
su

Code: Select all
grub2-install /dev/sdx

Replace "X" by your HD's letter. If you one HD only, type sda

Code: Select all
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
