copying equo updates [Solved]

Postby eyas » Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:22

hello everyone! pardon the newbie question, im new to sabayon, i just installed it at work and at home, and finding it awesome!

problem is my home internet connection is too slow, and running "equo upgrade --ask" takes hours. is there some way i can avoid having to download twice from the repositories the same weekly updates? i was thinking if i could copy the downloaded updates at the office to my flash drive and have some way to tell my PC at home to fetch files from it before going out to the repos. but i couldn't find how to do that in entropy.conf

im considering 2 more options: (1) copying over the "/var/lib/entropy/.../5/packages.db" :bom: and doing a "equo upgrade --replay", or (2) "equo rescue --backup" at work and "equo rescue --restore" at home, but i thought it best to ask first :) any tips for the bungling beginner? thanks!

If you simply copy the downloaded files to the correct directory, when you do an equo update on the second machine, it should look at the packages and see that the checksum matches and install them without downloading them all. It would only need to download the repository data (equo update).

I don't recall the exact directories, I'm not at home at the moment, but I know you can do what you are looking to do. You might even be able to set up an rsync script, so you wouldn't have to do anything manually.
