Sabayon 10 will not boot

Postby itsmeacalling » Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:31

Hello. I am trying to run Sabayon 10 from a live dvd but my machine will not boot up, the options screen is displayed when the dvd is first read but then the screen just goes blank and thats as far as it goes. I have down loaded Sabayon twice and burnt two dvd but both have the same problem. This problem occurs on two different machines. Now if I am running XP and click on the Sabayon dvd the program starts to run but why will it not run from starting a machine up? The BIOS is set to boot from cd rom first.

Thanks

did you try any boot cheat codes? without hardware information or errors it's hard to know why. Can you hit Alt F1 and see where it stop booting?

Hi Wolfden having the same issue myself trying Sabayon_Linux_10_x86_MATE.iso. Tried from USB and DVD and getting the same thing as the original poster. Initial option screen shows fine but then it goes black when I try to run it as a live CD. Alt+F1 shows nothing, perhaps not getting any video output? CD showed some activity but nothing ever came up on screen.

MD5 checks out. DVD burned with K3b and verified OK.
CPU: Intel Sandy Bridge G630(2.7 GHz dual core)
Mobo: Intel DH67CLB3
RAM: 2x2 Gb DDR3(Kingston Hyperion X)
Videocard: Asus ENGT430(Nvidia GT430)

Any other information that would be helpful?

Update. Managed to get the live CD working by starting in debug mode. This error was recorded in rc.log:

Failed to load theme 'default'.
* Failed to start the splash daemon, error code 256

Can you try to edit the bootline and remove the part that reads "VGA=791" and then try to boot without this option set?

Thank you, that did the trick.

Not trying to be rude but since this is the newbie forum you should assume the person you're helping knows nothing and provide instructions. To be honest I'm very new to Linux(only Ubuntu and Mint so far) and stumbled onto how to do it by accident.

Hitting F5 to bring up the Options menu and then Esc to close it stops the timer countdown, is there a better way?
Select the option you want in the install menu and the keyboard left/right arrows lets you edit the boot line(text below the menu options).

Off topic, I'm currently using Mint 13 w/MATE 1.2 and was a little surprised at the difference in appearance of the main menu. Is this a difference between MATE 1.2 and 1.4 , Mint and Sabayon or a some of both? As a former Windows user I really like this menu layout.
