First time Linux user...

Postby NoobNeutralizer » Thu Sep 20, 2012 20:07

I've been reading really good things about Sabayon on various websites and have finally decided to give Linux (this distro in particular) a try...

Which edition would be best for me to start with?

KDE, Gnome or Mate?

:)

It depends on you personally.
Try the Live-Distros Desktops and how to deal with...
But don't forget, if you never did a linux Desktop before, you are beginner and you will need time to learn...
I personally prefer KDE though (I'm honest in that) there are a lot of unsolved bugs recurring.
But there is a complete Desktop and system integration in KDE now (before also),
that no other distro can offer.
What I mean is a complete personal suit with contacts, calendar, email and more (KOrganizer),
I love the plasma widgets, the different virtual desktops kaffeine media play (for dvb) and much more.
I wish you a good choice...

Thanks for replying...

I download the Mate build and gave the live cd a try...
It was nice (fluid and streamlined)...

I've read that KDE is similar to Windows (ie: desktop layout/etc)...
It's also 3x the size of the Mate build...

I'm currently downloading KDE and Gnome so I can burn them and try out the live version...

I was watching a video on Youtube of the Compiz Fusion theme and didn't really like it...
Is that what the Gnome build looks like?

Are the bugs in KDE showstopping, or are they just minor annoyances that don't prevent daily use?

I don't really play any major pc games, but I do like to use emulators...
Do the Windows versions function fine with Wine?
