Sab 9 won't boot after updates

Postby babysitteronacid » Fri Aug 10, 2012 13:31

I've just done a fresh install of Sab 9 KDE and it all went swimmingly. I then did the updates on Rigo. I left it doing that overnight. In the morning everything still seemed to work. I opened a program under wine - that all worked. Went on-line - that all worked. So I switched off. Later I turned on again and it wouldn't boot. That is it "boots" (says so at the bottom of the screen) but won't take me onto a login screen. All I get is a blank screen (that is the sab9 colours are still there but nothing else) and a flashing cursor.
The small amount of time I got to play with the system (before updating) the system seemed as fast as anything. So I really want to get this to work.
I've got a seperate Home partition which I daresay has a load of .hidden folders in it. Could it be that something there is messing everything up. I don't know - maybe old .wine or kde stuff from my last distro (mint 12 kde)?
This is my first try at Sabayon (or anything Gentoo'ish) so I'm not up to speed on using Rigo yet.
Anybody got an idea? Do I really have to boot a live CD, chroot it, and start dicking around with some obscure Config file? I hope not.

Hi,

I think you have done a kernel update, but not updated the video driver, therefore no X, and no log-in
Follow this link and read carefully:

https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=Entropy

under section 11, How to upgrade the kernel, follow instruction word for word.

That should sort it out for you

I have been there too, the same happened to me with sabayon 9 gnome, after following the instructions for updating a fresh install from here http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=En:Entropy#Fresh_Install_-_What_to_do.3F after doing the updates using the equo command line I rebooted PC and the computer were useless, didn't booted to the login screen, had to reinstall again and this time I used Rigo to update instead of the equo command line and all went well, the system booted to the login screen! 8)

Same problem here. After I successfully installed Sabayon next to Ubuntu and Win7 I made an upgrade and the effect is the same as described by babysitteronacid. As greendave8 said I've went to http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... ng_Entropy and have followed instruction word by word but with no effect...

I'm using ati graphic card and I'm sure that "eselect opengl" is set correctly.

edit: I'd like to add that the upgrade was done as written here:
