Removing Compiz?

Postby NinjaNumberNine » Wed Sep 09, 2009 14:20

:batman: Hey, I recently switched to Sabayon Linux (for the looks, mainly) and after installing I remembered that my computer does not work with compiz, i have an older graphics card. About 30 seconds after login, the screen locks and all I can do is move the mouse, none of the shortcut keys work either. I had this problem in Kubuntu as well, I solved it by going in one of the tty's and typing
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove compiz-wrapper compiz-core
but Gentoo has different commands... What is the Sabayon way of removing compiz from a terminal? Also could someone give me a list of simple commands like how to remove, install, change directories, become root, and other similar stuff? :batman:

Most of the commands you are looking for are in the wiki,
they are pretty similar to Ubuntu:
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Entropy#About_Equo

Bash commands are all the same, on any Linux.
Change Directory = cd
Become root = su
Close a console = exit
Shutdown the PC = shutdown -h now
Reboot = reboot
Remove a file = rm
Current directory = pwd
Find a file named <name>
starting from <dir> = find <dir> -name <name>

and so on.

To remove compiz I think you should do:

Code: Select all
equo query installed compiz

It will bring up all installed packages that contain compiz.
Then you do:
Code: Select all
equo remove --ask <package>

This will remove <package> asking for confirmation.
I think the command you are looking for is:
Code: Select all
equo remove --ask compiz

If you want to disable it, then remove it, or just disable it, then on the login screen (GDM), click the Sessions menu, choose the 3D Manager, click OK, and login. It will show up with a dialog box that lets you choose if you want Compiz Fusion on or off. I hope this helps.
