No sound HDA INTEL 4.1 Gnome

Postby behemoth8186 » Tue Sep 08, 2009 20:42

Hi,

I recently migrated from Ubuntu to Sabayon 4.1 on my Dell Studio 1735. I have tried the wiki docs on fixing the sound problem, but it still exists. When I run 'cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* |grep Codec', it lists my model as IDT 92HD73C1X5,Silicon Image SiI1392 HDMI . The list on the wiki doesn't really show anything for that model. I tried to add 'options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m27' to the /etc/modprobe.conf (since that was the closest one to my model) with no luck. Anyone have the same issue with this model? If any other info is required, let me know. :D

Did you try the command:
Code: Select all
alsaconf

as root?

[EDIT]:
You could also try with:
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6

or
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=dell

Someone reported them to work with your laptop.
Ensure to reboot after adding options for alsa, to activate them and test them properly.

I have a Dell studio 1737 and the sound problem I encountered with Sabayon was the initial configuration setting the speakers being muted. I don't know if that will help - I'm not sure of the difference between a 1737 and a 1735.

I ran alsaconf as root, still no luck. Is there a particular place in modprobe.conf the 'options' line needs to be added? I have tried three different models with no luck. I have also checked all of the volume settings and nothing is muted.

They should be inserted in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf.
I usually place them to the end of the file with a comment, in order
to be able to restore the file as it was, if needed.

That most likely won't work because you need Alsa version 1.0.18 or higher for audio on the Dell Studio to work. I use Sabayon Linux 4.2 AMD64 on a Dell Studio 15 and added
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6
to
Code: Select all
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
