Kopete wont connect to MSN

Postby aaddron » Sun Aug 30, 2009 22:35

*Update*: I can get it to connect if I disable all accounts on Kopete except the MSN one... it takes a while to connect but it seems to connect every time.

Hi, not sure if this is the right section... I do apologize if it isn't.

I installed Sabayon 4.2 KDE today everything seems to be working except Kopete wont connect to my MSN account. I tried it right after I installed Sabayon and it didn't work. Then after updates where complete I tried it again and it still didn't work. According to "about Kopete" I'm running version 0.70.4. MSN isn't down and my account does work, I've tried it in Pidgin both in Sabayon and in my Windows install. The server and port are exactly the same as the settings Pidgin has. I don't get an error but I do get a notification about 30-60 seconds after trying to connect saying:

Kopete cannot reach the instant messaging server or peers.

after clicking "more information" it repeats the first statement and adds:

This can be because either your internet access is down or the server is experiencing problems. Try connecting again later.

My internet connection is working fine and the MSN server is working too so I'm not sure what to do. My AIM account connects fine in Kopete so it's not Kopete can't get connected.

Any ideas?

Is there a certain reason you want to use Kopete instead of Pidgin if Pidgin works and Kopete doesn't?

Kopete is better integrated into KDE and I like how it's setup compared to Pidgin... that said I have no problem using Pidgin but imo it's better to try to fix something than just ignore it and that's why I posted here to see if anyone has any ideas.
