Low Volume levels in Sabayon

Postby Jeff91 » Thu Aug 27, 2009 1:35

For some reason even when I have the volume all the way up in Sabayon it is only at around half the level I have in Ubuntu... I dug through the volume menu and did not find anything... Anyone mind pointing me to the right place?

Did you read my question? My sound works - just at around half the maximum volume that it does in Ubuntu/Fedora... That FAQ link discusses installing ALSA drivers for non-functioning audio. (It does not mention low volume levels) Are suggesting I try reinstalling the Alas drivers outside of the kernel?

What DE are you using? What application are you using to control the volume levels?

It's my experience that multiple applications will try and control the volume, and the maximum you can put the volume at is still limited by what multiple applications have the volume set to.

There have been many posts in the SL forums about low volume over the last few years. It's a common question in all Linux distributions, not just SL (as googling will show). For example, when I searched the SL forum using the keywords "volume low", amongst the threads returned was the following, which may have helped: Sound is incredibly low

Yes I did, that is why I referred you to the link as a starting point as it includes setting volume controls and making sure the card got setup properly. It's not must about installing ALSA drivers.

Alrighty I do indeed have an Intel internal sound card. I'll give the howto listed a go and see if that helps my low volume issue.
