Can't enter text

Postby Andyn » Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:36

I can log into Sabayon entering my user name and password as normal.

However when the desktop comes up I can't enter text in any apps at all. This means I can't put my password into the wallet, can't access my internet connection, can't use a terminal...

It's got me stumped. I have a multi boot system with other Linux distros on it so I could hack files from one of them if I knew which one to go for. Any ideas for how to fix this problem or should I just wait and install S5?

Thanks for the quick response. Yes this started after I last updated. All had been working well before that.

I'm using 4.2 with kde and have been using sulfur for updates.

Gonna have to look at log files to find the error

are you updating the config files too?

u can try reinstalling
x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard
x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse

but of course that won't be easy task for ya, sounds like you need to chroot in and look at some log files to see what is going on.

Nope couldn't get anything to work so I've reinstalled. I had incidentally been using sulfur and making sure config files were updated using equo. I still don't know how I broke it.

You should have rm -rf the/etc/X11/xorg.conf file first really

It would be difficult to do that when I couldn't enter any text.

Just for future reference, it would be a hassle but not impossible to do what TheV00d00 recommended: you could boot a LiveCD/DVD (any Linux distro would do, including SL if you can enter text when running the SL LiveDVD), mount the HDD partition and then delete the file.
