Update - Upgrade [Solved]

Postby rpil » Sat Aug 08, 2009 16:00

Another silly question. :oops:
I have Sabayon 3.5 installed on my HD. The default package manager is Entropy and its graphical form is Spritz, not Sulfur. I want to update and possible upgrade my system. Spritz "says" "No updates available. It seems that your system is already up-to-date. Good!". Is this possible? If not, please someone tell me how can I update/upgrade my system. Thanks. :wink:

3.5 rocks, 4.o was better we now have 4.2 which kicks butt!
Long story short, to upgrade 3.5 will take days and something along the way is bound to break. Back up home and re-install with a newer version such as 4.2.
Depending on your hardware....you may want to install 4.0 to get the .27 kernel and just update it. would still be 700+ packages but doable. If your hardware will run the .29 kernel go for it.

Just too many changes between 3.5 and 4.0 and many changes from 4.0 to 4.2 5.0 is just around the corner.

3.5 is not supported any more. You are in an entirely different branch and that branch has been discontinued as of July 1st so that is why you have no updates.

Please get the latest version available 4.2 as we can't support 3.5 upgrades.

Alright! So, I installed 4.2 gnome and i tried to open Sulfur for update the system. Nothing opened, I gave "Sulfur" at the terminal and i received this message:
Code: Select all
"Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/entropy/sulfur/sulfur-client.py", line 21, in <module>
    import gtk
  File "/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py", line 48, in <module>
    from gtk import _gtk
ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/_gtk.so: undefined symbol: gtk_clist_thaw@gtk_clist_freeze

Well, maybe it was an installation problem, so I reinstalled 4.2. I've pressed the update icon and Sulfur opened this time! I tried to follow the instructions from here http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Sulfur, but I've noticed that the instructions are not for Sulfur, but for Spritz (the icons and the functions are somehow different). I finally found the way and now I update the system. Every start is difficult, you know! Thanks again for the help. :wink:
I'll be back! :lol:
