x86-64 or amd64

Please excuse me if the answer seem obvious but I could not find it anywhere on the site.

My question:
I have an Intel i7 machine with 6g of ram. The 64bit version of Ubuntu 9.04 would lockup after installation so I thought this is a good time to give Sabayon a try. I see versions for x86-64 and amd64 on the download page. I'm assuming that amd64 would be the correct one for me (downloading Sabayon_Linux_4.2_amd64_G.iso as I'm writing this). I'm also assuming that G stands for Gnome. Am I downloading the correct version? What the difference with x86-64?

The G does stand for Gnome and, as far as I know, "amd64" is just a different description for the x86-64.

x86-64 = amd64, amd64 is a gentoo term used purely for historical reasons.

G = Gnome
K = KDE

Thank you all for the quick reply. Now I'm sure I'm using the correct build.

I did try Gentoo on a virtual machine a few days ago and it was rather painful install. I don't mind compiling packages from source but kernel configuration is a little too much for me.

LOL here it is very nice you just use equo or sulfur "old spritz" to install the bin packages for you and if you want to you can source compile.

The amd64 ~amd64 tree has more users and more up-to date than other 64bit tree for intel cpu's .
