Few question about sabayon linux.

Postby artur » Mon Aug 03, 2009 12:06

Hello friends,
I have a few question to people which are using sabayon for day to day use. Exactly are there any instructions how to install sabayon from the new core release? I am not advanced user or IT. I know that is a live gnome but I hate when i don't hae any idea of what software services are installed. I like when i install any part off my system myself. I like to have full control of my system too. And doing system from scratch I think is the best way to learn linux basisc and so on. And one more question sabayon is based on gentoo so documentation of gentoo is usful for sabayon and it will work? They are agreement eachother?
Sabayon have it's own ebuild or based on gentoo ebuilds? How much are ebuilds in Sabayon? If i want there are also a binary package avaliable to use? I have amd sempron 1ghz and 756 mb of ram so I am not shoure about comapilation everythink because on that ancient computer it can take ages.Thx for help any help:D
Best regards
Artur
P.S sorry for me english I know that it is not perfet but i hope it is at least comunicative. And sorry for mistakes

Most of your questions are answered in the wiki, you should read it :)

There is a guide, courtesy of wolfden, in our wiki, check it out:
http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=Visual_Tour:_CoreCD
it is targeted toward advanced users.

Gentoo documentation is perfectly compatible with Sabayon.

Sabayon has an additional overlay with custom or additional ebuilds, but Gentoo ebuilds can
be used with it.

Sabayon can use a binary package manager, entropy, which ease the package management and is
compatible with portage; mixing them can be done, provided that the user knows what he/she does.
Its TUI is equo and its GUI is Sulfur, the CoreCD version is able to use both entropy and portage.

Hope it helps :D
