cannot boot live cd

so i downloaded, checked the md5,burnt to a dvd at slow speed, and cannot boot into the live cd. it gets as far as the menu and i select sabayon 4.2 and it just goes to a black screen.

specs:
asus m2n68-am se2 board
amd phenom quad core 2.3
4 GB mushkin ddr2 800 ram
hd4850 512 video card
samsung writemaster sata dvd burner

i know there can be issues with ati and linux however i have tried the on board nvidia graphics as well.

i tried the ati noddc cheat code. i got an error message about ACPI _pss and then kernel panic not syncing:no init found.
