One more dumb question

Sorry to be polluting the board, but I need all the help I can get. I went about deleting and readding the overlay on a fresh Sabayon install, but I deleted the old one before I installed dev-utils/git, so I can't add the new overlay. However, I don't think I can install dev-utils/git because I deleted the overlay! What the hell do I do now?

dev-util/git isn't only in the Sabayon overlay, it's in the main Portage tree (http://packages.gentoo.org/package/dev-util/git). Just install it, then re-add the Sabayon overlay. (BTW, are you sure git isn't already installed? Check by doing equo search git or emerge --search git).
