Installing k3B burner in Sabayon 4.1 [Solved]

Postby s_raaj_nishanth » Fri May 29, 2009 2:18

I'm quite new to linux and have been using Sabayon for the last one month(..i had version 4.0 till now and yesterday i installed 4.1). But sabayon 4. does not have k3B burner and i desperately need that. I've downloaded the package but do not know how to install it. I tried using emerge<packagename> but it says the ebuild script is not found. Pleeeeease help.

you should be using the package manager

If you check the wiki, use the search function and google you can find the answer to most of your questions.

Spritz has been renamed to Sulfur
Use Sulfur to install programs if you prefer the GUI

Or in a terminal as root type
equo install <packagename>

Thank you kodiakmax and joeoden. I followed the instructions in wiki and finally did a "emerge k3b". I think it installed k3b coz it too nearly an hour to complete it. But now i do not know how to start the program. No desktop links have been created. I even typed k3b in the console but it says unrecognised command. Pls help.

s_raaj_nishanth - you were given the above information, why did you use emerge?

The version of k3b you have does not create links for KDE 4 when emerged. You can start it with this command in konsole:
Code: Select all
/usr/kde/3.5/bin/k3b
If you update k3b (using entropy) you will get a link created in the menu or you can create your own link to the version you already have.

Thank you dunsurfin. It works when i use that command.

I'm sorry Wolfden....i had to use emerge K3b rather than follow the instructions in wii coz they were not working for me.
Whenever i tried to use "equo search k3b" (as mentioned in the wiki) i got a message " Repository sabayonlinux.org hasn't been downloaded yet. Please update your repositories now". But when i performed a "equo update --force " it used to give me a message "Attention: database does not exist online ". This is why i tried emerge.....it worked.
