Not sure why...
I ran
#equo install cairo-dock-themes
It was successfull but after doing it, it didn't seem to apply to my gnome desktop, and didn't fix it
Then I ran
install gnome additional themes... sumthin... sumthin... in sulfur
It was also successfull, but still didn't fix it
I had been logging off between user and root all this time. So I tried switching users from "user to root" and ending up with a white screen with an active mouse curser and puter locked up, so I powered it down and rebooted.
I logged into root, and my windows were normal again in root...

So I'm working for now... w00t!

Hi,

Did we ever find out what is going on here? I have reinstalled twice and both times when I update equo update && equo world I get this problem. I installed with the kde installer 4.1.
I automerged all the configs because I had not manually edited any of them, I guess one of them was broken. I am using an nvidia graphics card and driver.

For now I am just using the kde window manager and hoping that somebody finds the problem.

I'm having (i think) a similar problem. Compiz will suddenly deselect all of the options available in its settings (thus taking away the toolbars at the top of all windows and making windows impossible to move since these are all part of the available things it controls). I'm using a mac book pro with nvidia 8600M GT. It seems - though I'm not sure - that it only does this after I've enabled transparency (like in the cube settings). I'm still looking for a fix and came across this thread. I'm going to try reinstalling and see if that helps at all. I'm brand new to saybaon and hoping to fix this problem.

Same problem here, with an ati card using fglrx driver. I hadn't changed anything for ages, but the last set of updates borked it.
Reverted to the (painfully slow) kwin manager too :(

What version of ati-drivers do you have installed, and what model of ATI GPU do you have? The latest versions of fglrx do not support older ATI GPUs, in whih case you should switch to one of the open-source ATI drivers -- see the post Re: ATI drivers < 9.6 for 2.6.29 for details (including how to tell if your model of ATI GPU is supported by fglrx).

I'm using a brand new ati card (a 4650 or something), it is supported by the latest drivers (this is on my desktop, not laptop).

What fixed it for me (and whoever marked this thread [SOLVED]) was re-installing the video driver package
Code: Select all
equo install ati-driver

I guess it would be
Code: Select all
equo install nvidia-driver nvidia-settings

for an nv card.

I could tell 3d had stopped working, I ran 'acceleration-manager' and it told me so
After the re-install, 3d was working again, so choosing the 'Enhanced Desktop Experience' (from Acceleration-Manager) enabled Compiz and all was well :D 8)

I read (Wolfden's?) thread/wiki about upgrading drivers after a kernel upgrade, it wasn't clear that it would be necessary after an update (eg 2.6.29.9 -> 2.6.29.10). It seemed to imply it was only necessary after an upgrade (eg 2.6.29 -> 2.6.30). If it's on the wiki I might add a note to this effect.

with kernels, it don't matter, if you mess with em, you are messing with the modules/drivers. It's common knowledge when u change the kernel, u must make sure modules/drivers are installed for that kernel.

2.6.29.10 is an upgrade to 2.6.29.9

And that's the bit that's still not completely clear to me: In your post (I found it again) you mention 'eselect'ing the kernel and checking that the correct drivers/modules are installed, but I did that, they were. When I ran it, equo didn' t install a different driver, it re-installed the same one.

If it's the case that when the kernel is changed the video drivers must be re-installed, why isn't it built into the kernel package in some way? Or at least noted in the comments? Does it affect everyone, every time, or were I and the other posters above just lucky

I'm not complaining here (although it probably sounds like it), just curious :D
