rc.d wow that is a long long time ago think it changed about 1.5 years ago to "rc-update add sshd default" using openrc in gentoo and can also do the /etc/init.d/sshd restart or mess with /etc/conf.d/sshd as example.
Have you checked on /etc/resolv.conf
"opendns" this could help it get going if your ISP has a DUD / Lemon dns server setup and 90% of them do + can login to opendns and edit phishing filters and other firewall type to stop most problems.
Spritz is a bit confusing at first as you have to click the RSS orange wifi looking icon and "update" then click the top icon to see avaialble or click the installed etc then select and back to the left of the screen to the yellow traingle ! and select and problems = que all and lastly left CD icon and commit and finally it will say "all is fine baby nothing to do" or you can use text equo same same.
Spritz is actually very good can even add your forums login there and "user generate content" so packages for entropy tree , just stumbled onto that part and reading up on it now
Feel free to read up on most of this and make a customized method of doing this with correct commands for optimal experience.
