wolfden's desktop system monitors[Solved]

I am having trouble changing directories. I type in cd Desktop and it switches to my desktop no problem. I have saved files in my home directory in a file named dls. I can not cd to this. I tried cd home, cd Home, cd Home Folder, cd home/jason and so on. It keeps saying no such file or directory. I am still very new to Linux and have looked at various tuts but cant seem to figure this out.

Ok the way I read this is that you have files in a folder named dls which is located in your home directory.
to change to the dls directory type:

cd ~/dls


or

Code: Select all

cd /home/$USER/dls


or

Code: Select all

cd
cd dls


Now if the folder dls is on your desktop you would type

cd ~/Desktop/dls


or

Code: Select all

cd /home/$USER/Desktop/dls


etc, etc.
and to see what directoy you are currently in type

Code: Select all

pwd


and to see the contents of your current directory type

Code: Select all

ls
