2 problems at the moment - Emails & auto login [Solved]

Postby Tony-photoplus » Wed May 06, 2009 18:11

I have loaded up Thunderbird, I couldn't get on with Kmail. I set it up ok, but when it came to sending message it went haywire. After trying to sort it out I went to something I know backwards and set it up. But, there seems to be a problem even with this. When I try to ask it for emails it comes up with this statement...
"Unable to write with email to mailbox, make sure file system allows you write priviledged and you have enough disk space to copy mail box"

So what isthe problem here? Is it that I have cocked up the OS when I loaded it or something to do with priviledges?

The other is 'Auto login'. I have located somewhere in the advance section where I can tick a box but its greyed out and just states in RED 'READ help files'. Looked there for 'Auto login' and as usual help files are as helpful as a chocolate fireguard. And, again how can I resolve this?

Thanks

Looking forward to seeing your answers as I can't recieve emails shall just have to keep poping back

Did you add a backup of a previous thunderbird profile from a CD/DVD? That will be "read only" and needs changing. If you open whichever file manager you use at your home folder, make sure that "show hidden files" is checked, then open the ".thunderbird" folder and right click on your profile folder and look at "properties". The "permissions" tab will show you the information you need and you need to make sure that it is marked as "read and write" and the check box to apply to all subfolders and files is ticked. Click "OK" then restart thunderbird and see if that helps.

Can't help with auto login I'm afraid.

Many thanks dunsurfin. This is has done the job. I have got further than the other Linux OS and everything so far (fingers crossed) is working for the first time with too much hassle. Things are still a bit confusing but as long as it works its great.

All I have to resolve now is the auto login at the moment. But I shall see what happens when I up date the updates later

Thanks Wolfden I have tried the and read, but having difficulties in putting together a script and transferring to root, then I am not sure how really to set it up with a terminal. Terminals always confuse me. But it is a pain not being able to access your own computer and tick a simple box.

I've just tried this tip here:

viewtopic.php?f=86&t=16891&p=96653&hilit=autologin#p96653

It works.

pokes micia for a wiki page

autologin seems to be popular all of a sudden, out of all the years here, I have never seen it asked so many times before.
