Am I right in thinking that you can't get the livecd to run? Have you tried any other livecd? (it doesn't have to be Sabayon one). As far as I know, the only way to fix the problem is to reset the passwords using chroot.

Can I just be sure about this? When you reboot, the password change hasn't worked.
