Sabayon & Intel 5100

Postby Acid_1 » Tue Apr 21, 2009 18:30

Hello all! This is my first time posting, so I'll just ask a bit. I've been an avid Ubuntu user since 2005, and currently I bought a new PC. I bought a nVidia card, which nVidia always releases drivers for Linux, but wireless can sometimes be a sticky issue, so, my new PC has an Intel 5100 in it. How does Sabayon play with it? Does it come installed, is there an easy way to install them, or is it just a terminal process (which I do like the terminal). No big hurry either, my PC won't be here till May.

Hi there and welcome here.

You should be able to fix it if not already there "iwl5100"
Code: Select all
emerge -S iwl5100

net-wireless/iwl5100-ucode 5.4.0.11

For some reason it is installed on mine, using 4.1 Gnome.
Keep in mind some intel wifi cards love mac80211 module so might have to load it with the card for wep /wpa /wpa2 connections.

You should also be able too but not guaranteed to work
ie: install on a usb hd and add what you need and then later boot the pc with the same usb hd / memory stick once all the parts are installed and 99% chance it works without issues or maybe a few cheat codes.
