burnt the iso to cd, then checked it; ok.
tried to boot and failed. Found instruction to use /boot/sabayon.
Did that, and it booted; my suse 10.1 from hard-drive.
Screen told me OS was sabayon. but it was
suse?? can anyone explain. please.

I had something happen that I have never seen b4.
burnt the iso to cd, then checked it; ok.

i assume you mean the wiki guide on booting from HDD, you will need to change the path that it tries to boot to the sabayon install partition not the suse partition
