Rigo showing packages installed That Aren't [Solved]

Postby sqlpython » Sun Dec 23, 2012 18:23

I used RIGO to install Netbeans 7.2 and Eclipse Ecj 3.5, 3.6 & 3.7
RIGO says they are installed
I can't find them in the DirTREE
equo search doesn't find them
& Not in the Menu

My brother's install confirms that he can't install either package himself.
We have installed these via emerge and RIGO many times.
Does anyone have a Clue as to what is happening via the repository?

Yeah, so I see...
My Brother grabbed a tar to compile Eclipse.
I am going to check out how he made out and then follow Suit.
We use Eclipse with the Android SDK and find it is a Great IDE for such.
I can use Netbeans. I will post back my results and see if that helps others here.

Bummer Wolfy :(

As the the SDK is mostly just for Viewing and Testing your Android work in a Virtual Android and the Apps are Java you can develop in Linux and run Anywhere.. No?

I have no idea, but I kinda think it depends on what you are doing as the file system from android 4.1 changed a lot in 4.2 to allow profiles. Some apps will not work in the 4.2 where they will in 4.1.

I mainly got it for my phone to have a command line interface to access it. With all these abilities to root and flash it's a good tool to have incase one gets himself into trouble. So far I've had good luck with all my phone torturing.

Hmmmm. I don't have 4.2 yet and wasn't concerned about forward compatibility until your post Above..
Usually, an Older Java SDK is good moving forward. I would have been more concerend with New Stuff Created with 4.2 working completely in a 4.1 environment.
I will research incompatibilties. Can You give an Example or Two were the New Broke the Old.
Much appreciated.

I have seen users reporting on apps that do tethering no longer work and another one is widgets working on the lock screen, than there is the recovery apps that had to be redone to support the new file system so users don't end up with a /0/0/0/0/0/ each time they flash a different ROM. So yea one needs to beware of the changes from 4.1 to 4.2 to avoid breakage or making a mess of things.

Thanks for the Heads up..
Something just isn't right there...
A new Version should be backwards compatible. Not the Java way. Must be those who develop the Android SDK mucking it up. Not a very clean way to do business.
