Remove but ignore dependencies. [Solved]

Postby nobicycle » Thu Dec 06, 2012 7:56

Hi,
Now that mysql under Oracle's "ownership" is going the way of OpenOffice I wanted to install mariadb. I must first remove mysql but doing so would remove a 44 other packages.

Since mariadb is a 'drop-in" replacement for mysql, the best way would be to remove mysql without removing dependencies and then emerge mariadb.

Any thoughts?
Is it possible to remove a single package only?

Code: Select all
equo remove --nodeps --ask mysql

You can see the various options for equo by using:

Code: Select all
equo remove --help

Code: Select all
equo --help

Code: Select all
man equo

Thank you Fitzcarraldo.
I feel a bit silly not having done "man" properly, but in my defense I reckon there has been an equo rewrite and the monolithic equo man is now split into parts. When I saw man equo so brief, I assummed it was part of the "less is more" policy, so I didn't go further. But now I see at the bottom of that man references to equo-remove, which is needed.
Best wishes
