Update to kernel 3.6 broke boot

Postby phantasm » Mon Oct 22, 2012 22:24

Hello!

I have a LVM over LUKS setup. everything worked fine with the initial 3.5 kernel installed by the Sabayon installer. When I updated to the new kernel, I now get this error, regardless of if I try to boot 3.5 or 3.6, recovery or not :

Determining root device...
!! Could not find the root block device in .
Please sêcify another value or: press Enter for the same root block device() ::

To my understanding it is that the luks and lvm hooks where removed, but I cannot seem to find any file where I could add them back (/etc/mknitcpio.conf doesnt exist)

Can anyone help me with this problem? I would prefer not reinstalling!
Thanks in advance,
phantasm

uhm... I think "luks" module doesn't load

try editing t command line at boot (typing "e" to edit )
add
Code: Select all
 cryptdevice=/dev/<root_device>:root

where "root_device" is root partition (dev/sda1 or /dev/sda2 etc...)

or from chroot ambient

you can try this :
Code: Select all
# echo "GRUB_PRELOAD_MODULES=luks" >> /etc/default/grub

and
Code: Select all
# grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Code: Select all
# reboot

good luck !
