Sabayon 9 CoreCDX x86_64
Installs fine but after upgrade I get an 'Unknown Domain' error message on reboot and it doesn't bring up X.
I'm thinking video drivers but I don't know much.

No help at all then? The distro is unusable as is.
Tell me what information you need.

It would be helpful if you provided further information. See the post 'Howto Gather Log Files Easily - Help Us to Help You' in the Announcements section of this forum for details of how to do that. Also, have you checked whether you have got the OpenGL symlinks set up correctly for your GPU?:

Code: Select all
eselect opengl set xorg-x11

if you are using an open-source driver, or:

Code: Select all
eselect opengl set nvidia

if you are using the closed-source NVIDIA driver.

It would be useful to check if it is boot related or GUI related, can you check if you can get a command line by pressing ctrl+alt+F1 when X doesn't come up?

Also, did you install Sabayon using text mode or GUI mode? If you went through a text install, check if your GRUB boot line has the gentoo=nox option.

Fitzcarraldo already explained you well how to check your drivers, if it was a module related problem.

Just in case, /var/log/rc.log could be helpful to check that unknown domain problem.
