Need to install nvidia drivers 173.15.18 on an offline pc

Hi guys,

I've tried to install both sabayon linux 4.1 gnome and kde (SL from now on) but I still have the same problem with my video card nvidia geforce fx 5650 on my asus lg5000 laptop. After the installation, I login and after that gnome or kde starts, the screen freezes and you can't do anything


As far as I can see on these forums, the problem seems to be related to the default nvidia drivers that are installed autamatically during the installation of SL. These drivers are v.173.14.15 r10. I need to install v.173.14.18. Actually I don't have an internet connection at home, where I installed SL, therefore I need to download the necessary to do any modification from a pc that has windows vista (where I work) and then copy this stuff on the offline pc at home.

For this reason I've downloaded from nvidia official site the new liunux drivers that comes in a file with .run exstension (v.173.14.18). Yeserteday evening, I tried to install those drivers but the run file need to rebuild some kernel module and so it needs kernel source package that doesn't come with SL iso. At this point I've downloaded from sabayon repository (http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayo ... ges/x86/4/) :

but when I try to install one of these packages through Spriz application, SL shots a dependency error. The following packages are missing:

1) virtual/dev-manager
2) sys-devel/make
3) >=sys-libs/ncurses-5.2

The dependencies above are not present into the sabayon repository. Where I can find them? Can you help please?

reinstall baselayout first

yes I've tried to reinstall baselayout and then udev again but always the same dependency error:

"some dependencies couldn't be found. Itcan either be because they are masked or because they aren't in any repository"

This is the problem.

Ok, I'll follow your advice: searching around (wiki, google, etc.)... I'll let you know how my adventure with linux will continue... or end at the moment.

In my opinion, to avoid loss of time when someone wants to install sabayon linux on offline computers, it's needed to find some easy method to have 'what you need when and where you need'. I mean: if you need to install a package everywhere outside internet, and this packaged app has some dependencies, there should be an application that can download your application and all its dependencies and also dependencies of dependencies. In this way you can have obtain an independent set of packages ready to be installed everywhere.

Anyway thanks a lot guys, your'e doing a great work!

You do not have internet because it is not configured the pc? or for other reasons?
