Very very weird Equo update lead to system crash

Postby denijane » Mon Sep 22, 2008 11:42

Yesterday, I was back from a day off and Spritz told me I have an old Equo version. I thought it's weird because I checked for updates the day before, but gave it ok. Along with 289 other updates. Ok ,you can blame me on that one, but I was busy with something else and really didn't look twice. And my logic was that maybe there was a mass update due to the newer version of Equo. Whatever.
Now KDE isn't working. All the two kernels I have are loading into console mode and X is very very off. It turned out that my ati driver is replaced by VESA in the xorg.conf. Could it be that yesterday Spritz decided to revert back to the old kernel and the new ati drivers for the new kernel got, well, messed up? I can see on ctrl+alt+F7 a login screen saying "Lelcom to SL on localhost"-something I've never seen before and when I tried to login it simply blink and then shows up again. When I try to login as a root, it says "root logins are not allowed". On console I can log in but beside xorg.conf I'm not really sure what to do to get the system up and running.

I know this is pretty much my fault for not taking a careful look on the updates, although Spritz certainly isn't suppose to do that. Anyway, suggestions how I can get back to normal? Because I really don't want to reinstall or repair SL since it will remove the installed programs and two of them are particularly problematic for me.

I never messed with the repositories of Equo. Just checked with Spritz and installed the updates. I haven't installed things since the ati-drivers for the new kernel. Was too busy for that.
Any ideas what got wrong? And how I could possibly fix it trough console? I will repair if it's absolutely necessary but I prefer not to do it.
