stop entropy downgrading portage packages

Postby pajamabama » Fri Sep 19, 2008 18:31

Seeing as this thread has been inactive for some time, I wanted to push the topic up the top of the forum again.

I'd like to have a way (other than manually masking each offending package) to prevent entropy update from trying to downgrade packages installed via portage.

From the Update Applet:
Code: Select all
Package Name                              Version Installed                      Available
-----------------                      ------------------                       --------------
sys-apps/portage-2.1.5.3                      2.2_rc8~9999                        2.1.5.3~0

This seems wrong to me.

We really, really encourage people to not mix the package managers - there are very few who can manage it without troubles. For those who do, there are two reasons. First, is they're good - they know what will be effected by loss off or additions to USE flags, and compensate it when they use equo (which they would only use if they really needed a long-compiling program immediately). the others, it's because they didn't change make.conf at all, which means that they might as well be using equo. If you want an upgraded package from portage every now and then, then it's not too much of a hassle to mask them completely in entropy. I'd always mask portage in entropy
