Sorry about giving the wrong advise
If you go to Edit->Preferences and click on the Security tab there is a button at the top that says "exceptions". If you click on it, it will show a list of web sites that Firefox thinks it safe to install addons from.
Have you got the site addons.mozilla.org in the list?
