VLC does not display video any more

emerge =media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070330-r1

Thats the version of ffmpeg im using and it works fine, newer versions may work as well but apparently theres some problems with the latest version.

win32codecs you can not install on 64bit, any use flags with () around them wont be used. It doesn't make the slightest bit of difference anyway win32codecs are for things like wmv

I also had a prob between the latest version of ffmpeg and blender, but playing around with flags fixed the prob. i am not sure which flags i used tho

I did this:
emerge -C ffmpeg
emerge =media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070325
It asked me to reemerge xine-lib and vlc:
emerge xine-lib vlc
At the end vlc still does not play video of avi files.

It is not due do ffmpeg release.

What codec are these avi files that you cant play? and what files can you play? also what USE flags are set (emerge -vp vlc or eix vlc)

Actually with vlc I can play MPEG, I can't play AVI and Dv.
Starting from konsole vlc says that can't play files with the following fourcc (at least): mp4v, DIVX, DX50 and dvsd.
Other players like kaffeine, codeine, kmplayer play thm all with video.
Here are the USE flags:

The API for ffmpeg changed. So in the ebuild "swscaler" is now enabled. On the Gentoo board: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-41 ... 704e3eb5d9

The problem:

When swscaler is enabled for ffmpeg then old resample API is not compiled and
some symbols using by VLC not available. VLC is not able to load ffmpeg plugin
because of missing "img_resample_init" and most transcoding paths doesn't work.

I don't see a USE flag for "swscaler" so install an earlier version.

I was able to get vlc working again with the following:

sudo emerge =ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070330

(the last version before the API change, I think)

sudo emerge xine-lib vlc

(to rebuild the affected programs)

Ya know, I had the same problem... like now.

The same issue, but this time VLC and XINE bombed out.
SOLVE:

emerge =ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20070616



Oh... and obviously: "emerge vlc xine-lib" after that.
